If you want to use QuickBooks with your royalty software here are the actions you should take to facilitate this integration.

1. Author Imports: Assign royalty recipients a vendor type. This will allow you to filter your QuickBooks vendor contact list export to include only royalty receipients.

2. Product Imports: Add royalty defining fields to your items (products). If you have royalty rules that pay a different royalty based on product format; such as a 20% of net sales on eBook sales, you must define a new product field in your item list to reflect this. This will allow you to export product information from QuickBooks and import it into your royalty software.

3. Sales Imports: Apply sales discounts to each invoice line item. Most royalty software sales import rountines want to see the sales discount incorporatated into each line item (i.e. sales amount is the net after the discount is applied). Some QuickBooks users enter the discount for the whole invoice as a single line item. Easy Royalties supports both line item discounts and invoice level discounts.

Easy Royalties royalty software sales import discount options:

4. Accounts Payable Imports: Purchase Transaction Pro Importer from BayStateConsulting.com. With this software you can import the royalty software’s calculated payments owed to royalty recipients into QuickBooks.

This is particularly helpful when handling complex accounts, e.g if an agent represents several authors or if several contracts have been made with an author.

Contracts, Rights and Subrights Module

“Using Biblio, particularly the Head Contracts module, has revolutionized my life…

…This may seem like hyperbole, but it’s not. Biblio allows for better management of the rights granted to Candlewick under the head contracts and enables me to quickly find precedent contracts and contract clauses. This strengthens my negotiating position with agents, authors, and illustrators. Prior to Biblio, I had no central repository in which to store the type of detailed rights information found in contracts. Each contract existed individually in paper and Word document form, but I had no means of drawing similar data together to analyze or leverage the information for future deal-making.

The head contracts are the assets of any publishing company. It is by virtue of the rights, terms, and conditions found in these documents that a publishing company can operate at all. Everything that happens to a book throughout the publishing process should be provided for in the head contract. As such, it is vitally important that the provisions contained therein can be understood and managed effectively, and Biblio is an excellent, robust yet easy to use tool for doing so.”

Becky Hemperly, Candlewick Press

“The recent development on entering rules and formula is superb!

The information flows in the order stated in the contract and is much less time consuming to enter. Scanning contracts onto the system is fantastic!

… in general, I love it!”

The RoyaltyZone Mantra

“Licensing Compliance Made Easy”

Our Story

“Necessity, who is the mother of invention.” RoyaltyZone was inspired by a problem: a company new to licensing was growing their business and becoming increasingly frustrated by the difficulties of reporting and paying royalties. Each Licensor had different reporting rules, royalty rates, Net Sales calculation methods, and report formats. Accounting software couldn’t handle Royalties. The spreadsheet was getting out of control. Why not use the internet to streamline the process and make life easier for both Licensors and Licensees? From this, RoyaltyZone was born. The goal? An affordable, easy to use software service that makes compliance with License Agreement terms easier than ever before.

CANNES—Indie label Cleopatra Records has chosen to implement Counterpoint Systems’ Maestro Relationship Management (MRM) software to provide its clients with access to royalty statements online. Used in conjunction with Counterpoint Systems’ royalties processing application Record Maestro, CRM will allow music publishers and other Cleopatra clients to instantly view royalty and sales data, summary reports, financial balances, label copy and other vital information. MRM is a boon to transparency and efficiency in royalties processing.

“We have chosen MRM because our royalty statements are getting too large to email for some clients—digital sales significantly increase the size of statements,” said Cleopatra Royalty Manager Paul Morse. “Our clients will appreciate having more control over their statements and 24-hour access to information on their history, which albums and tracks are selling the most, et cetera. It’s all readily available and at their fingertips.”

Counterpoint will showcase the latest versions of its industry-leading rights management and royalty accounting solutions from the 24th to the 27th of January at Midem in Cannes, France.

About Cleopatra Records

Cleopatra Records exists at the very forefront of cutting edge music. Continually looking forward but never shying away from the past, this indie juggernaut’s roster boast a wide array of artists such as IGGY POP, WANDA JACKSON, LAYZIE BONE, JOHNNY THUNDERS and THE 69 EYES just to name a few. Established in 1992 by BRIAN PERERA, the philosophy at CLEOPATRA RECORDS is simple: A Label Run By Music Fans For Music Fans. While many other independents have fallen to the wayside, Cleopatra has managed to become one of the premiere independent record labels in the world while also branching out to encompass all genres of music and media.
